Production Log Interpretation Course

Software independent.

Day 1:

Production Logging Introduction (1½ hrs)
Objectives, Available sensors, their selection for surface read-out or memory logs. Production log operations and data, log quality control.
Completions and their effect on PLT data (½ hr)
Casing, slotted liner, gravel pack, open hole, deviation, packers, restrictions.
Production Log Evaluation (2½ hrs)
Interpretation principles, data corrections, PVT, multiphase flow in straight and deviated wells, systematic PLT problems and misleading conclusions from normal PLT data:
Inflow jet effect indicated by spinner as flow loss. In deviated and horizontal wells even the flow direction is frequently indicated wrongly by the spinner data. Spinners overreading due to small quantities of water circulating in the flow; capacitance reading too much water; no spinner data at all; estimating the flow from temperature curves, etc.
Worked PLT examples (afternoon)
Several examples will be presented and discussed:
Start with raw data per well conditions. Examine details about averaging, spinner calibration and velocities, PVT. Discuss about multiphase flow variables to be applied. Derive at provisional interpretation.
Compare to other available data or information.

Day 2:

More worked PLT examples (morning)
Thermal Decay Logging Introduction (afternoon for all other tools)
Objectives, available sensors, their selection for surface read-out or memory logs.
Thermal Decay log operations and data, log quality control.
Interpretation: Data handling, Diffusion correction, Saturation computation Stand-alone and Time-lapse technique, Worked examples.
Reservoir Saturation Tool Introduction (2 hrs)
Objectives, RST Overview, RST applications, Sigma characterization.
RST: SpectroLith, SpectroLith Interpretation.
Cement Bond Log (CBL) and Segmented Bond Tool Introduction (2 hrs)
Objectives, CBL and SBT Overview, CBL principles, Principle of operation of the Variable Density Log (VDL), CBL and VDL Interpretation, hints and problems.
Ultrasonic Imaging Tool (USIT) and Ultrasonic Corrosion Imager (UCI) Introduction (2 hrs)
USIT and UCI Overview, USIT basic theory of measurement, examples.
PSP Multifinger Imaging Tool (PMIT) (2 hrs)
PMIT Overview, PMIT applications, examples.
Course venue: In-house course on premises of Oil / Service company.
Course material: Provided on CD.
1 Course Manual optionally provided per participant at cost of € 150.00.
